Samsung has with OneUI 7 unveiled a new software version, which looks very familiar to us. The new update looks exactly like iOS 18. This is what it looks like!
Samsung One UI 7
On Thursday, December 5, Samsung announced a new software version, because One UI 7 was shown to the general public for the first time. During the announcement, Samsung revealed the new features and the updated design of One UI 7. Certain features of One UI 7 are striking because they are not really new. They are very similar to several components that we already see in Apple’s iPhone with iOS 18.
The first similarities are immediately visible on the lock screen. Samsung has the Now Bar added to One UI 7. The elongated feature is placed at the bottom of the lock screen and provides information about apps running in the background. Consider a timer or a media player. Does that sound familiar? That is quite possible, because Live Activities and the Dynamic Island have exactly the same function on the iPhone.
One UI 7 vs iOS 18
Next to the Now Bar shortcuts have been placed, which look similar in iOS 18. The similarities continue with the updated Control Center in One UI 7. Samsung has opted for a transparent design, so that the background remains visible when you open the Control Center. The controls for adjusting volume, screen brightness, and media player are very similar to the Control Center in iOS 18.
At Samsung, the introduction of Apple Intelligence has of course not gone unnoticed and this can be seen in One UI 7. Samsung has announced new AI functions intended to read, summarize and improve texts. Apple’s Writing Assistant performs exactly the same tasks. Not only are the tasks virtually the same, but the writing assistant menu in Galaxy AI also looks the same as that of Apple Intelligence.
Release of One UI 7
So there are many similarities between iOS 18 and One UI 7, especially when looking at the design of the software. This is not very strange, because large companies often adopt features from competitors. For example, Apple has implemented many changes in iOS 18, which we previously saw in Samsung’s software. For example, it has long been possible to customize the home screen to your own preference.
Apple only brought that option to the iPhone with iOS 18. While Samsung has now adopted many features from Apple’s iOS 18, it also happens the other way around. One UI 7 is not yet officially available, Samsung has only released the first test version. The final update will not come until 2025, when the most important functions of Apple Intelligence will also come to the iPhone. Do you want to know more?
