Samsung is working on a new way to reduce the repair costs of its phones. It will use parts made from recycled materials, South Korean media say. Sometimes a part can be up to half cheaper as a result.
Samsung repairs
Samsung is committed to making phone repairs cheaper for users. According to Business Korea it will manufacture components made from recycled plastic, glass and metal. If you later replace a screen, it can cost up to half as much and the quality of the parts made from recycled material must also match that of the regular components.
If you drop your brand new phone today and the screen cracks into a thousand pieces, repairing is usually the way to go. If it is an older device, it is often cheaper to buy a completely new device instead, even if it is not the most ecological choice. In addition to your screen, every part in the phones still works, but the price of a new screen sometimes rises to 300 euros.
fishing nets
According to information from South Korean media, Samsung will present its recycled parts initiative in the coming months. Earlier this year, the tech giant also announced that 20 percent of the material on the back of the Galaxy S22 is made from broken fishing nets in the ocean. Whether that really makes a big difference when you compare the amount of plastic waste in the sea, you can discover here.
