Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 gets a new rival with better cameras

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 is undoubtedly one of the best folding smartphones out there. Still, there is room for improvement for these and other foldables, especially in the camera area. Vivo now seems to have found the solution for this.

Vivo X Fold with top specs

That solution will probably be called Vivo X Fold, says the Chinese rumor spreader Digital Chat Station on Weibo. According to the report, Vivo’s foldable phone will have some interesting features that will fuel the battle with the Z Fold 3 and OPPO Find N.

The Vivo X Fold is said to have a foldable 8-inch LTPO QHD OLED screen with Ultra Thin Glass (UTG). The glass that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip is also equipped with. We also see an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, 66W fast charging and 50W wireless charging. The Vivo X Fold would be powered by the high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. So we are dealing here with specifications of smartphones in the high segment.

The camera setup would also get strong specs. There is talk of cameras that are almost identical to those of the Vivo X70 Pro Plus:

  • 50 MP main camera (1/1.5-inch sensor)
  • 8MP ultra-wide angle camera
  • 12 MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom
  • 8 MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom

Whether the ultra-wide-angle camera also has gimbal stabilization, like the Vivo X70 Pro Plus, is not said.

Vivo X Fold images

In addition to the specs, images of the Vivo X Fold have also been shared on Weibo. We see a design and wallpaper similar to the Galaxy Z Fold series, including camera notches on both screens. On the back we find the four-camera setup, complete with Zeiss branding and a periscope camera. That camera is expected to outperform the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s 12MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.

Another striking detail in the images is the switch on the right side of the device when it is closed. Presumably this is a locking mechanism for the folding mechanism. In addition, it seems that the foldable Vivo will have a synthetic leather back, which we also saw with other high-end smartphones from Vivo.

Vivo X Fold launch

Vivo will launch the X Fold in China on April 11. It is unknown if or when the folding powerhouse will come to other regions. In any case, we hope that Vivo does. What do you think of the Vivo X Fold? hot or not? Let us know in the comments below this article.
