After various other manufacturers, Seat now also announces that it is working on so-called “artificial intelligence” techniques. The Spaniards want to detect sleeping drivers and warn them if necessary to prevent accidents.
It is Seats ’Xplora team that has now started working on the future AI technology. This team consists of technicians from Seat and Champion Motors; the Israeli importer of the Volkswagen Group. In the past two years, this has already resulted in collaborations with 200 other companies. Now Seat comes to Eyesight Technologies. Together they are now working on the development of techniques to study the eyes of drivers in a Seat. Seat wants to be able to detect whether drivers are distracted or even fall asleep at the wheel. If this happens unexpectedly, a warning will follow to prevent accidents.
The technology can also recognize and distinguish between different drivers through algorithms. For example, it must be possible to recognize the driver on the basis of eyes and to automatically adjust all settings to the driver’s wishes. Consider the setting of the chair and climate control. It must also be possible in the future for the car itself to intervene in dangerous situations. A radar then scans the road for pedestrians. If the AI technology then sees that the driver has not yet looked that way, the car itself intervenes.
It is not yet known when such techniques are ready for production.
