‘Second generation AirTag is coming’ (you need to know this)

According to rumors, a new version of the AirTag is on the way. But when exactly? And what are the improvements of this second generation AirTag?

Kuo: new AirTag coming up

Usually reliable Apple connoisseur Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple will probably introduce a new AirTag in 2024. That reported Kuo on X (formerly known as Twitter).

‘Second generation AirTag is coming’ (you need to know this)

According to Kuo, the second-generation AirTag will become part of Apple’s new ecosystem, centered on the Vision Pro headset. The Apple expert could not provide further details or new functions.

Apple’s current tracker has a U1 chip that allows you to track the tracker. Kuo has previously said that the iPhone 15 will likely get an improved Ultra Wideband chip. That could mean that Apple plans to put a new version of the chip (U2) in the next iPhones and second generation AirTag.

We secretly hope that Apple will also change something about the design. It would be great if a future version has a hole. You can then attach it to a bunch of keys without an accessory. Now you often have to buy a special case for that.

It would also be great if there were more versions of the AirTag. How about a version with a small screen? Or e-ink, because that costs virtually no electricity. Or maybe a version with an LED, so you can also see where the tracker is.
