A new update is available for your iPhone! The second public test version of iOS 17 is now available to install, bringing a number of new features to your phone. Officially, iOS 17 will not be released until later this year, but with the test version you can already get started with all the new features. The first public beta was released last month.

AirDrop gets more secure and Photo Stream is gone
The main extension of AirDrop in iOS 17 is NameDrop. The feature is an extension of AirDrop and is intended to quickly share contact information with another iPhone or Apple Watch. You do this with NameDrop by simply holding the two iPhones together – or an iPhone and an Apple Watch. You could not disable this function, but you can in the second public test version of iOS 17.
In addition, in the new public test version of iOS 17, all directions to Photo Stream have been removed. This was a feature that allowed photos to be synced across all your Apple devices. With the arrival of iCloud Photos, the service became obsolete and Apple has since discontinued the Photo Stream. In the new test version of iOS 17, all references to Photo Stream have therefore disappeared.
Small changes in test version iOS 17
Furthermore, Apple has mainly made small changes in the second public test version of iOS 17. For example, the AirPlay button has a new animation and the font on your lock screen has been made slightly thicker again. In the first public beta of iOS 17, you could still choose a very thin font for the clock and date, but this option has been adjusted again in the new iOS version.

We see another small change in Messages. In iOS 17, applications take on a more prominent role in Apple’s Messages. In the second test version of iOS 17, Apple has already given the icons of these apps a new design. Furthermore, mainly bugs from the first public beta have been fixed in the new version of the operating system.
Official release of iOS 17 will take a while
Do you want to get started with the new functions? Then you need to register on the special Apple beta website. After that you can install the second public test version of iOS 17 directly. Please note that this is still a test version, so there may still be errors in the software. As a result, some functions may not yet work perfectly on your iPhone. Therefore always make a backup.
You have to wait a little longer for the official release of iOS 17. Apple releases iOS 17 shortly after the presentation of the iPhone 15.
