Shazam gets a new feature for iPhone (and it’s very useful)

Apple has introduced a new feature to Shazam, which many users will probably be very happy with. This is new.

New feature for Shazam

An update for Shazam is available! Apple has added support for ‘Live Activities’ in the latest version of Shazam. That feature was introduced in iOS 16, with which apps show a special type of notifications on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island. This way you can see the score of a football match, or how long it will take before your taxi arrives.

Now Shazam also works with live activities, so you can see on the lock screen of your iPhone which song is recognized by the app. Once Shazam has registered which song it is, you will see it on your iPhone’s lock screen. The number remains on screen until you swipe the notification away. Very useful, because it sometimes happens that you forget that you looked up a song on Shazam. Live activities remind you of it again.

This is how you enable live activities

Due to the support for live activities, you will also see Shazam in the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) and the iPhone 15 series. When Shazam has recognized a song, it will appear in the Dynamic Island. So you no longer have to go back to the Shazam app. This way you are immediately aware of the title and artist of the song you were looking for. To enable the new feature in Shazam:

  1. Open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone;

  2. Scroll down and tap ‘Shazam’;

  3. Turn on the switch behind ‘Live activities’.

Have you enabled live activities with Shazam? The recognized number will then automatically appear on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island. The feature is only available in the latest version of Shazam. So make sure you first update the app in the App Store, Shazam has the new feature from version 17.11. Don’t have the app yet? More new features for Shazam

It is the first time in months that Apple has provided Shazam with a new feature. Since January, it has been possible to use Shazam to recognize songs from other apps while wearing earphones. That was a major update, because it also allows you to look up songs that are not played through your iPhone’s speakers. Shazam may get even more new features in iOS 18.
