Shazam recently received a major update and now the app is finally as good on iPhone as it is on Android. This is new!
Shazam is now just as good on iPhone as it is on Android
Shazam is one of the most popular song recognition apps. Useful if you hear a song in a store or with a video as background music and you want to know what the title is. Apple acquired Shazam a few years ago and the app is regularly updated, but the Android version was still better than the iPhone app.
This is no longer the case recently, because Apple has updated Shazam. With this update, the app also has a new feature that was previously only found on Android. Shazam is finally just as good on the iPhone as on Android.
The function that Shazam has been added to the iPhone is to recognize music while you are wearing headphones or earplugs. For example, if you’re watching a YouTube video on the train and you want to know what song you’re hearing, you can start Shazam and it will tell you within a few seconds.
New Shazam feature: for any headphones or earbuds
Also nice to know: it doesn’t matter which headphones or earbuds you use. This can be a wired headset or one that is connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth. Furthermore, you do not necessarily need to have headphones or earbuds from Apple (such as AirPods) for this function.
Add Shazam to Control Center
It is useful to first add Shazam to the control panel of your iPhone if you have not already done so. The Control Center is the screen you see when you swipe down from the top right edge of the screen. On an iPhone with Touch ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
To add Shazam to the control panel, first open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone. Then scroll down and tap ‘Control Center’. Scroll down and tap the green dot next to the ‘Music Recognition’ function.
Recognize a song with Shazam (also with headphones)
Once you have Shazam in your iPhone’s control panel? Then it is very easy to recognize a song (now also when you wear headphones). When you hear the music, open the control panel and tap the Shazam logo (in the image above it is the icon at the bottom left). Then you have to wait a few seconds before the app gives you the name of the song.
