Apple has already made Siri smarter with Apple Intelligence functions (unfortunately not yet in the Netherlands), but more improvements are coming in 2025.
Siri will get a major update in 2025
The 2025 Siri updates will appear in new versions of iOS 18 and also in iOS 19. By this time next year, Siri should be much smarter, provided Apple’s planned changes are actually implemented.
The best new Siri features haven’t been added yet, but Apple gave a sneak peek at the last WWDC back then Apple Intelligence was first announced. We expect these changes in iOS 18.4.
Personal context
With Personal Context, Siri will keep track of all your emails, messages, files, photos and more by 2025. If it’s on your iPhone, Siri knows where it is and where it came from. Using this information, Siri can help you find something you’re looking for. For example, this could be a flight number in an email you received, a file you downloaded or a photo someone sent you.
In addition, Siri also uses Personal Context to learn more about you. Siri can then better help you complete tasks and keep track of everything on your iPhone. Apple gives a few examples of how to use Personal Context: “Play the podcast John recommended” and “What time does my mom’s flight land?”
Screen awareness
Siri will know what’s on your screen in 2025, so you can simply refer to it. For example, if someone sends you an address, you can tell Siri to add “this” to your contacts. Siri then knows what you are talking about.
Since iOS 18.2, Siri can send a screenshot of your screen to ChatGPT. ChatGPT can then perform some of the same functions. However, Apple emphasizes that this ChatGPT integration is not the same as the Screen Awareness feature coming to Siri in a while.
App integration
Siri will get better integration with apps in 2025. This allows Siri to perform hundreds of new actions in apps. Apple gives examples of using Siri to call up articles from the reading list in Safari, or sending photos of a specific location to someone, for example ‘Send the photos from the party on Friday to John’.
Siri will also be able to perform multi-step tasks in the future, such as editing a photo you take and then sharing it with someone with one command.
Siri in iOS 19
All of the above features are part of iOS 18 and will therefore appear in one of the upcoming iOS 18 updates. In addition, there are rumors that Apple is developing a new version of Siri for iOS 19.
Siri in iOS 19 will rely on large language models, or LLMs (Large Language Model). An LLM version of Siri will be able to have continuous conversations, making it feel more like you’re speaking to a human. Siri will be able to perform more complex tasks and compete better with ChatGPT.
Apple plans to replace the current version of Siri with LLM Siri in the future. It looks like it will be announced in iOS 19, but the actual functionality may not arrive until an iOS 19 update that Apple releases in 2026.
We will hear more about the features of Siri in iOS 19 during WWDC in June 2025. We do expect some new Siri features to be added when iOS 19 is launched in September 2025.
