Skoda Octavia knocks Volkswagen Golf off the German throne

Striking news from Germany. The Skoda Octavia has knocked the Volkswagen Golf off the throne in November. It is the first time that the Czech Golf brother has beaten the Volkswagen in the sales statistics.

Figures from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) show that the Skoda Octavia has surpassed the Volkswagen Golf in the German sales statistics for November. Skoda sold 3,307 Octavia units in Germany in November. Just a little more than Volkswagen managed to wear off the Golf in that month (3,186 units). Never before has the Octavia beat the Golf in Germany.

However, it does not mean that Skoda is trumping the Golf with the Octavia this year. In fact, Volkswagen has sold considerably more copies of the Golf in the first 11 months of this year than Skoda of the Octavia. Up to and including November, 36,526 Octavias found a German home while the Golf was registered 85,843 times.

A striking shift can also be observed in the middle class in November. The Tesla Model 3 is allowed to sit on the sales throne in that sales class. Tesla sold 3,825 units of the Model 3 in Germany in November, considerably more than the normally unattainable Passat, which remained at 2,264 in November. In the first 11 months of this year, however, Volkswagen sold more Passats (42,765 units) than Tesla Models 3 (29,166). The Renault Zoe was the most popular EV in Germany with 4,200 registrations in November (Jan-Nov: 20,165 units).

In November, 193,258 new passenger cars were sold in Germany. That is no less than 31.7 percent less than in the same month last year. It brings the total of passenger cars sold in Germany in the first 11 months of this year to 2,394,502 units.
