Snoozing email has been around for years. But not everyone takes advantage of this yet. You can see this option as a kind of deferral function for mails that you don’t feel like. But that’s missing the function. Snoozing does help to keep an overview of your mailbox. It’s a kind of mnemonic device that you always set on time and always come up on time when it’s time.
Tips for snoozing email
In the web versions of mail services you can often recognize the functionality by a clock icon. When you hover over it with your mouse, you will see a term such as ‘snooze’. The same button is also always at the top of the mail options of the service you use, the moment you have an email open for you. For Gmail users, there’s even a handy shortcut. When you read an email, simply press B to snooze an email. The correct menu will then appear, where you can set the time and date when the mail will be returned to the inbox.
Within the apps, the function is somewhat hidden. After opening the mail you often have to press a menu button. This is usually a button that consists of three dots. Then the option Snooze in picture. Gmail and Outlook users can also use swipe settings to snooze emails. Within the settings you will look for swipe actions, where you set that swiping left or right will bring up the snooze menu. This way you can work very quickly and you never have to search. Users of other mail services sometimes need a third-party application, such as Spark or Newton, because not every mail service supports snoozing in the app by default.
When to Snooze Email?
You can snooze email for several reasons. Some emails you simply don’t want to answer yet, so that will come later. Then you’re procrastinating and sometimes that’s okay. But in most cases you use this option when you know you need emails at a later time. Because you don’t want to forget an appointment, would email someone back at a later date or because you want to keep an eye on an order. Does something arrive within fourteen days? Then snooze the email and make sure it appears in your inbox again in fifteen days. This way you can keep an overview of your emails, contacts and orders, all within one program or service.
