At the same time as the second generation of AirPods, Apple released a wireless charging case. You put the earplugs in this box, after which you can place it on a wireless charger. Of course you were supposed to use Apple’s charging mat for this, but the AirPower has been canceled. Fortunately, there are a number of alternatives to the AirPower available.
If you want to charge the AirPods 2019 wirelessly, you have to buy a Qi charger from another brand, and this is not without problems for everyone. In this way we read several complaints Reddit and Apple’s official forum.
Some cases do not charge at all, or very badly. With others, the battery never gets completely full, but gets stuck at, for example, 80 percent. The problems seem to occur mainly with Mophie and Belkin chargers.
That’s how you solve it
Do you also suffer from a badly working charging case? Then we have a few tips. First, move the charging case over the surface of your charger and see when the AirPods are charging and when not. Maybe the coil of your wireless charger isn’t that big, so it doesn’t make contact with the case. The box of the earplugs is relatively small, and therefore has a narrow point to guide the flow.
Second, the problem could be with the box itself. So try it out on multiple chargers if you can. If it doesn’t respond at all, the case may be faulty and you should contact Apple.
Finally, we read that for some people the problem is caused by (a lack of) distance. Try putting a few sticky notes between the case and your wireless charger and see if the problem is resolved. It is not entirely clear how this works, but some people say that this solves their charging problem.
