Subaru Forester on the 1.8 Turbo

Subaru brings a new sporty version to the Forester. The new Subaru Forester Sport not only gets some sporty-looking accents, but also has a new 1.8 turbo engine under the hood.

The new sporty version of the Subaru Forester is simply called ‘Sport’ and can be recognized from the outside by its black grille and wheels painted in a dark tint. In the interior, Subaru installs leather-covered sports seats and aluminum sports pedals. Is it then a series of external adjustments? No, Subaru puts the Forester Sport on a set of new springs and dampers, but the news does not stop there either. The Forester Sport gets a completely new petrol engine for the brand!

Subaru is bringing a 1.8-liter turbo engine to the Forester Sport. The brand already supplies that blown four-cylinder boxer engine in the new Levorg and is good for 180 hp and 300 Nm. The maximum torque is released between 1,600 and 3,600 rpm. The petrol engine is always linked to a CVT transmission. For the time being, the Forester Sport with the new 1.8 Turbo is only presented for the Japanese market. We are awaiting a response from the Dutch importer whether the new powertrain will also be available in our country. Currently Subaru’s SUV in the Netherlands is only available with the hybrid 2.0 e-Boxer machine.

Subaru delivered a 2.0 Turbo of the first generation Forester in our country between 1997 and 2005, initially with 170 hp and from 2002 with 177 hp. From 2004, a 210 hp 2.5 Turbo also joined the ranks. That turbo engine made its debut in the primal Fozzy and was also fitted in the second Forester in 230 hp form. The previous generation Forester was available with a blown petrol engine between 2013 and 2019, a 240 hp 2.0.
