Subaru teases CO2-neutral STI E-RA Concept in steaming smoke

Subaru goes for a green future. It is therefore remarkable that they are teasing their new STI E-RA Concept by photographing it in a fume of exhaust gases. Or is the earth cooling again thanks to Subaru, and is the concept shrouded in icy mist? We will know more in January, when the Subaru with the STI E-RA will be at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

As befits a teaser, the released photo of the Subaru STI E-RA reveals few details. Between the white fumes we see two mean looking McLaren-esque headlights. Above it are a number of firm cooling slots. A clear hint that this dark red monster will not be a wallflower.

Motorsport of tomorrow

And that is exactly what Subaru promises. The STI E-RA is a taste of what motorsport can look like in a CO2 neutral era. The brand indicates that it is busy developing new and green techniques that fit within this vision of the future. We suspect that the ‘E’ in the name at least says something about the drive.

STI Performance

At the Tokyo Auto Salon, Subaru will also unveil a number of other interesting concept cars: the WRX S4 STI Performance Concept and the Levorg STI Performance Concept. In both cases, these are peppered versions of models that are no longer available in the Netherlands. The cars are covered with STI performance parts, thick spoilers and other bumpers. To complete the sporty picture, the Japanese went wild with a red spray can.

Tokyo Motor Show

We don’t have to wait very long for our curiosity about the Subaru STI E-RA to go up in smoke. The Tokyo Auto Salon will take place from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 January.
