Surprise: Apple Pay is now available for ASN Bank and RegioBank

Apple Pay has been officially available in the Netherlands since 2019. Almost all major banks soon introduced support for Apple Pay, but ASN Bank, RegioBank and SNS Bank did not. Now that has finally changed!

ASN, RegioBank and SNS get Apple Pay

The large banks such as ING, Rabobank and ABN AMRO had already supported Apple Pay since 2019, but other smaller Dutch banks were still waiting.

Last September, de Volksbank (the parent company of SNS Bank, RegioBank and ASN Bank) announced that Apple’s payment method will soon be available on the iPhone and Apple Watch. Then it was quiet for a long time. That has now changed!

Screenshots confirm news on Twitter

In a tweet of an account that regularly checks whether Apple Pay is available (at SNS, RegioBank or ASN Bank) says that the time has finally come. We just have to wait for the SNS bank. We also have on Twitter some screenshots found that underline the news. The option to link Apple Pay to your ASN bank can be seen in the image above.

These screenshots also tell us that it’s too busy right now to help all users who want to set up Apple Pay. Earlier, de Volksbank reported in a press release that this support would appear May 17, 2022. The fact that we are already seeing this function now (10 May) is a nice surprise!

What is Apple Pay? And how do you set it up?

With Apple Pay you can pay contactless via your bank with your iPhone or Apple Watch. You do need an iPhone 6 or newer. Apple Pay is also a replacement for iDEAL on your Mac. Apple Pay makes paying at an ATM in a supermarket even easier.

The technology behind this is called NFC. This chip is on the back of your iPhone and makes contact with another device. Your regular bank cards also contain an NFC chip.

With your iPhone, all you need to do is tap the side button twice and confirm it’s you with Face ID. Then you have to hold the iPhone near the ATM. And voilà: you’ve paid. Do you still have an iPhone with Touch ID? Then you have to press the home button twice.

If you are unable to pay, you can still try to remove your phone case. When the case is very thick, it sometimes happens that the NFC signal is blocked. Paying with Apple Pay via your bank is very easy!

Of course you can also pay wirelessly with your Apple Watch. You then only have to hold your wrist with your smartwatch near the card reader. You do not have to confirm your identity again.
