The Volkswagen Group would have received a huge bid for a Lamborghini acquisition. However, the group recently indicated that it wants to keep Lamborghini indoors, but who knows, something will start to roll now.
There would, according to the British Autocar The Volkswagen Group received a bid of no less than € 7.5 billion for Lamborghini. That offer comes from the Swiss company Quantum Group AG. In the offer, this party would have indicated that it would like to deposit the amount for the full takeover of Lamborghini. Whether Volkswagen is up for this is still very much the question. After all, the group indicated at the end of last year that it does not want to sell Lamborghini. Earlier this month, supported by the parent company, the brand also showed ambition with far-reaching electrification plans for the coming years.
From the documents that the British medium has seen, it would appear that Quantum Group does want to allow a collaboration between Volkswagen and Lamborghini to some extent. Audi, among others, would remain in the picture for years as a parts supplier for the Sant’Agata Bolognese brand.
The Swiss Quantum Group is a new name that is still shrouded in mystery, but the person who allegedly submitted the offer on behalf of Quantum is well known. That is Rea Stark Racjic, the Swiss who founded Piëch Automotive together with Anton ‘Toni’ Piëch (the son of Ferdinand Piëch and great-grandson of Ferdinand Porsche) in 2017. The offer for Lamborghini may be a stand-alone project from Stark, but of course it gives us food for thought. After all, the line between Volkswagen and Piëch Automotive is short. Last fall, Toni Piëch recruited former Volkswagen CEO Matthias Müller for his own brand and of course, because of his father (who died in 2019), he has a strong connection with the group.
Piëch Autmotive Mark Zero
In 2019 Piëch unveiled his first car; the fully electric Mark Zero, now referred to as GT2 on Piëch’s website. This year we can expect more from Piëch. Whether the takeover of Lamborghini is part of this, time will tell.
