Telegram introduces disappearing photos and improves photo editor

Chat app Telegram has added another nice list of new features. From a better photo editor to self-deleting photos and faster downloads.

Telegram update improves photo functions

We increasingly send snapshots to each other, so Telegram is fully committed to photos this update. The built-in photo editor has been completely overhauled, giving you more options to edit images before sharing them.

You can crop a photo, adjust the colors or increase the contrast. In this editor you will also find a new clock icon. This allows you to have a photo delete itself as soon as the recipient has seen it. After tapping the clock, you can choose how long the photo stays on the screen.

You can leave these self-destructing photos for a second to a minute. Then they automatically disappear from the conversation. The text ‘Photo has expired’ shows that the photo has been deleted. The recipient must tap the photo before it appears on the screen.

Faster downloads and bios

In addition to expanding the photo functions, Telegram is also taking the opportunity to make some smaller improvements. You can now add a bio to your profile. This line of text is below your name, which comes in handy if you use Telegram for work-related contacts, for example, and can show you which company you represent. Members of large chat groups with thousands of people can now download photos and videos faster thanks to an improved network.

The major Telegram update is now available from the App Store. Interestingly, the Mac app hasn’t been updated yet, so you can’t view the self-destructing photos in here. A new version will probably also appear for the Mac.
