Cash refund
The so-called peace between Tesla and Chinese car manufacturers in the price war is over after just one day. Tesla is now offering Chinese buyers a cash refund after purchasing a Tesla.
There seemed to be an end to the price war that Tesla is waging against local manufacturers, especially in China. It was agreed that both sides would no longer conduct ‘abnormal pricing’. According to Reuters Tesla is already coming up with another way to lure customers, which seems to be able to exist alongside this agreement, but seems to add fuel to the fire again. Chinese people who buy a Tesla can get back about €443 in cash. It is therefore not a direct price reduction, but it does have that effect at the bottom of the line.
It is not as sharp a discount as before, but still there is a good chance that the Chinese manufacturers will consider this as a new provocation. Tesla initiated the price war last year by suddenly throwing substantial discounts, after which mainly Chinese manufacturers did the same. Here in the Netherlands, too, prices fell considerably.
