The Tesla Model S as a convertible; several creatives have already tried it. Ares Design now too and it doesn’t even look that crazy.
Less than a year ago, the Tesla Model S would lend itself well to an open version in terms of lines debunked by Newport Convertibles. That changed the Model S in a rather unfortunate way from a four-door with a roof to one without a roof. Not to mention some one-offs from other body shops. Ares Design, which nevertheless has a reputation to uphold, already announced in 2018 that it wanted to tackle it more thoroughly. The open version of the Model S also had to become a two-door, as it showed in a sketch. That looked a lot better. Now that car has finally been presented.
Tastes differ, but Ares has succeeded in giving the Model S decent shapes as a convertible. What mainly contributes to this are the two large doors. The rear doors were cleared and the front doors were extended. The tailgate has been completely adjusted and just before that we see a flap that rises to conjure up the fabric roof. Incidentally, the design of the modified rear comes from Centro Stile, which operates under the wings of Fiat Chrysler. Naturally, the chassis was reinforced to maintain structural integrity despite the roof being cut away.
Behind the front seats you will now find two seats specially designed for the convertible, which are modeled after the front seats. The interior has a striking combination of white, orange and gray, with stitching in the leather that has been applied by hand. The changes don’t stop there. Ares Design has also adjusted the front of the Model S. A new front bumper gives it a more idiosyncratic appearance. The Model S Convertible also sits on alloy wheels that have been removed from the shelves of the Italian company. Finally, Ares Design further dressed the Model S with some subtle carbon fiber extras on the bumpers and side skirts.
Unfortunately, we don’t yet see what the Model S Convertible looks like with the fabric roof up. Ares Design also does not say a word about the price or any production plans. This copy was built on someone’s request. If Ares Design now receives more of these requests, we would not be surprised.
