Tesla Model Y in the lead in Europe

There seems to be no end to the success of the Tesla Model Y. Most new copies of the electric crossover have already been registered worldwide and the EV can now call itself the most popular car in Europe in June. The June registration figures provide insight into which new car will be the leader in the first six months of this year. You guessed it: that is also the Tesla Model Y.

The Tesla Model Y was already the most registered new passenger car in the Netherlands in June and is now also at European level. That shows through Data force data collected and published by Automotive News. With this, the Tesla Model Y takes the top position from the Dacia Sandero, which was still on the throne in May. The figures from June complete those from the first half of this year. The Tesla Model Y is also the most popular new passenger car in Europe in the first six months of this year.

125,144 units of the Tesla Model Y were registered in Europe in the first six months of this year. The Model Y refers the ever-popular Dacia Sandero to second place. The down-to-earth Romanian accounted for 118,883 registrations in the first half of the year, making it the most popular new passenger car with a combustion engine. The Volkswagen T-Roc is in third place on the podium with 107,249 registrations. The Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208 are very close to each other. Opel registered 102,082 new Corsas, good for fourth place. This keeps the brand ahead of the Peugeot 208 (101,151 copies, fifth place). The rest of the top 10 provides few surprises. Positions six to ten are successively for the Renault Clio, the Toyota Yaris Cross, the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Volkswagen Golf and the Dacia Duster.

The Tesla Model 3 has been relegated to fifth place due to the success of the Model Y (38,843 units). With 78,783 registrations (place eleven), the Toyota Yaris falls just outside the top 10, as does the Peugeot 2008 (78,058, place twelve). The Ford Puma is in position fifteen, the Fiesta in 48. The Volkswagen Polo finishes in twenty, well ahead of crossover alternative T-Cross (26th place). There is not a single model of a relatively new Chinese brand in the top 50 over the first half of 2023.
