Tesla sues Rivian for ‘securing secrets’

Tesla has sued her relatively young competitor Rivian for alleged information gathering from former Tesla employees. They would have passed on secret information to Rivian.

A riot seems to have been born between Tesla and Rivian, known from the fully electric pick-up R1T. Rivian is said to have ‘hijacked’ employees at Tesla and may have asked them for confidential information about Tesla in return for hefty amounts. Tesla has suspicions that Rivian will benefit from innovations made by Tesla in this way. It has filed a formal complaint with the California State Court, it said Automotive News. Rivian says he is not aware of any harm. It promises to underline its new employees that they will not “introduce intellectual property of other parties into the system” at Rivian.

Although Rivian may not be too well known here in the Netherlands, Tesla now has a large party facing it. Rivian managed to connect huge names in a short time, including Amazon. That put a whopping $ 700 million into the car manufacturer last year and already ordered 100,000 electric vans from Rivian. At the end of last year, it raised the equivalent of € 1.17 billion from a ‘recruitment campaign’. In addition, it has concluded an agreement with Ford, which will use Rivian’s electric platform. Ford has also invested at least € 450 million in the company.
