Remarkable reports from China. There, Teslas should no longer be allowed near army bases. There are reportedly concerns about security with cameras and sensors that the cars have on board.
The Chinese Ministry of Defense has – according to reports from China Bloomberg picked up – ordered Tesla owners to stay away from military sites and buildings. In concrete terms, this would be a strict order for military personnel. From now on, they have to park (far) outside the gates when they drive a Tesla.
The reason given is that the Chinese government is concerned about the cameras and sensors on board the Teslas. These could be hacked and then images or precise locations of military bases could end up in the hands of third parties. The cameras in Teslas are not only used for the autonomous functions of the cars, but as an owner you can also call up recorded images if, for example, someone has hit your parked Tesla. The Chinese do not seem to trust the latter in particular. There are also concerns about constant withdrawals going to Tesla itself for testing the beta version of the Full Self Driving software.
Tesla China has, according to Bloomberg indicated that everything simply complies with local legislation in terms of security and privacy. Furthermore, the cameras of Chinese Tesla’s would also not be used for testing FSD beta.
