Special concept, particularly economical?
The new Renault Twingo made many people happy when it appeared on the market in 2014. After a deadly serious intermediate generation, the model was frivolous again. The same applies to technology. Under the boot floor is a compact three-cylinder that drives the rear wheels. A remarkable construction, not only in this segment. But … is the Twingo a little frugal with it?
Under the luggage floor of the Twingo is a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 70 hp or the well-known 0.9-liter TCe turbo engine with 90 hp. Between 2016 and 2018 there was the Twingo GT, where the power of the latter engine was increased to 110 hp. In the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor we only find versions with the SCe 70, the engine variant that was most often chosen. Between 2019 and 2021, the last years with a combustion engine, Renault delivered the Twingo with 65, 75 and 95 hp. The initially good sales figures had already collapsed considerably at that time.
Consumption Renault Twingo SCe 70
Than the average fuel consumption of the Twingo with 70 hp engine. Drivers in the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor note an average of 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers. One liter of petrol per 17.5 kilometers. In practice, the Twingo therefore seems slightly more economical than the Opel Karl, but less economical than a Mitsubishi Space Star or Hyundai i10.
The most economical Twingo driver drives about 10,000 kilometers with an average of 1 in 20.5. The least economical driver achieves 1 in 14.7 over roughly the same distance. Both motorists indicate that they have an average driving style and that they drive both in and outside built-up areas. However, the last owner indicates that he has been struggling with technical problems for some time, apparently resulting in increased use.
Finally, we look at the consumption of a Twingo owner who has tracked consumption from the very first moment, still does so and has now covered more than 63,000 kilometers. The usage? 1 in 17.1.
