There are many apps for the Apple Watch. But which one do you really need? iPhoned show it to you! These are the best apps for Apple Watch!
The best apps for Apple Watch
More and more apps from the App Store now also have a special app for the Apple Watch. When you install the app on your iPhone, you will immediately see a new app icon in the app overview of your Watch. But which apps are really useful to have on your Apple Watch? We give you a top four of useful apps!
1. Carrot Weather
You can of course already check the weather forecast on your Apple Watch with the Weather app. But it is quite limited and secretly quite boring.
With Carrot Weather, checking the forecast is even fun when the weather is bad. You can set how ‘well-mouthed’ the app is. You then have the choice to keep the weather forecast just business, or you can let the app run its course and you get all kinds of funny comments in between.
Whatever you’ve set, on the Watch, this weather app provides a lot more information than the default app. The App is free but does have a premium service to use all options.
2. Gentler Streak
Do you like to keep moving, but does it sometimes cost you just a little too much effort to get started? Then Gentler Streak is the perfect app for you. Instead of just exercising to fill the colored rings, the app gives you advice and positively encourages you to exercise.
The accompanying Apple Watch app looks a bit more organized than the standard fitness app. All data is also neatly stored in Health. Gentler Stream is free, but does have a subscription service to use all its features.
3. Authenticator
You use the Authenticator app to set up two-step verification (or in English: two-factor authentication). Two-step verification is a second layer of security over online accounts. Think, for example, of your Apple ID, Facebook account or Google account. That means that after entering a username and password, you have to confirm in a second way that you are who you claim to be.
Many accounts today require you to set up this extra security. There are several apps you can use for this, but they often don’t have a dedicated Apple Watch app. You then have to grab your iPhone every time to log in somewhere.
However, Authenticator does have an app for the Apple watch, but you have to activate it first. You do this by opening the settings in the app on your iPhone (this is the gear in the top left). Then scroll down and tap “Apple Watch.” Here you turn on the option. When you want to log in somewhere, you will also see the two-step verification code on your Apple Watch.
4. Overcast
For podcast fans, the Overcast app is a great way to enjoy your favorite podcasts on the go (without an iPhone). The app is very clear and free to use. If you no longer want advertising, this will cost you 9.99 euros per year.
If you want to download podcasts to your Apple Watch, go through the following steps. In the Overcast app on the Apple Watch, tap the gear. Then tap All Episodes to download the first twenty podcasts from your playlist to Apple Watch. Your Watch will only download the podcasts when the watch is on the charger and connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Install (and uninstall) apps on Apple Watch
With most apps, the corresponding Apple Watch app is automatically installed when you put the app on your iPhone. However, sometimes something goes wrong and you have to install the app manually. You do that in the following way.
Install Apple Watch apps manually
- Launch the Apple Watch app;
- Tap ‘My watch’ at the bottom left;
- Scroll down to the ‘Available apps’ heading;
- Tap ‘install’ next to the app you want to install.
It is also possible to hide the apps from your Apple Watch, without having to remove the app from your iPhone. Open the Apple Watch app and tap My Watch. Then scroll down and tap the app’s name under “Installed on Apple Watch.” Turn off the slider at ‘Show app on Apple Watch’.
