A new type of high-temperature superconductor already works at cool room temperature - even if only under high pressure. An important step towards everyday use has been taken.

by DIRK EIDEMULLER

The search for room-temperature superconductors is the holy grail of energy technology. If such a material could be found that would function under normal ambient pressure, then lossless power transmission over long distances would be possible. In addition, a lot of energy could be saved because highly efficient transformers and electromagnets as well as many other electrotechnical components could work with practically no loss of energy. And there would be less waste heat, which would otherwise be difficult to dissipate
