With the arrival of the fully electric GMC Hummer, one of the most famous American off-roaders has ever made a comeback. In a modern way, but apparently some things never change. The new Hummer is also very heavy.

It was already somewhat to be expected that the GMC Hummer would not be a lightweight. After all, we are talking about a wretched car, with an electric powertrain that (in the most powerful version) produces up to 1,014 horsepower. To make a decent range possible, there must of course also be a gigantic battery pack present. According to InsideEVs The EPA has now released official figures for the GMC Hummer and it appears that it contains a battery pack with a net capacity of 212.7 kWh. swallow. The EPA estimates a range of about 526 km with that package.

A nice range for such a large monster, but that huge battery pack will of course cost the Hummer expensive in terms of weight. According to the EPA, the battery pack alone weighs 1,325 kilograms. Another piece of cake compared to the total weight. The GMC Hummer with that battery pack weighs no less than 4,111 kilos. With a consumption of 0.40 kWh per kilometer and a weight that is another 680 kilos above that of the old Hummer H1, we can say that the new electric Hummer, just like its distant ancestor, is certainly not a miracle of efficiency.

Not that we can expect the GMC Hummer here through official channels in the Netherlands, but with such an enormous weight, there would really be a problem on the Dutch market. This means that you can only drive it if you have a C driving license (truck driver’s license). With a B driving license you can only drive cars up to a weight of 3,500 kilos.
