The first foldable iPad won’t be coming until 2026 – here’s what you need to know

Apple’s first foldable device may not meet its previously anticipated 2025 mass production schedule.

First foldable iPad not coming until 2026

The new rumor that the first foldable iPad will not see the light of day in 2025 but in 2026 comes from the well-known analyst Jeff Pu. In a note to investors, Pu said he expects more products from Apple in 2025. But he also said Apple has pushed back on the first foldable iPad.

In this case, it means that the expected release date has been pushed further into the future. This could be due to a delay in the development or production process. Or because the company has decided to postpone the launch for other reasons.

First an iPad or Macbook

In a report last May, Pu said that Apple’s first foldable devices would enter mass production in 2025. The report came after increasing evidence of foldable devices in Apple’s supply chain. Pu said at the time that Apple would likely release an initial foldable iPad or MacBook with a large screen around that time. Apple would then launch its first foldable iPhone in late 2026.

Pu said that the first foldable Apple device with a 20.3-inch display would go into production in late 2025. That was earlier than what was previously expected. In addition, a hybrid iPad/MacBook would also be in the works. A MacBook with a full screen or a foldable iPad – the idea is basically the same. This device would have an 18.8-inch display when unfolded.

Pu now thinks that Apple will not launch a first foldable device until the second quarter of 2026, most likely an iPad. According to him, this is due to ‘sustainability issues with the display’. When there are new developments, we will of course keep you informed!
