Apple has four new iPhones planned for next year, but the line-up will have a slightly different layout than you are used to. The Plus model is disappearing and making way for the completely new iPhone 17 Air, also known as the iPhone 17 Slim.

Previously, reliable Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo already shared some details about the iPhone 17 Air. The phone would have an ultra-thin design and a 6.6-inch screen. This makes it slightly more compact than the iPhone 16 Plus, which has a 6.7-inch display.

The fact that it would become the thinnest iPhone was one of the most striking features of this future iPhone. But according to the latest rumors, the iPhone 17 Air will not be as thin as first thought.

Apple is running into problems

In a message on the Korean website Naver Apple has encountered problems with making the iPhone 17 as thin as possible. The thickness of this thin iPhone mainly depends on the battery. The thinner the battery, the thinner the iPhone 17 can become. One of the problems is the high costs, which is why Apple has fallen back on an older, existing battery.

As a result, the battery in the iPhone 17 Air is not as thin as Apple first envisioned. The battery will now be around 6mm thick. This means that the iPhone 17 Air will be thicker than first thought.

Thinnest iPhone ever

Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever was the iPhone 6 (6.9 mm thick). The iPhone 17 probably won’t get much thinner than that. This would mean that the iPad Pro 2024 (13 inches) remains the thinnest device. By the way, the iPhone 16 Plus (which is expected to replace the iPhone 17 Air in the lineup) is 7.8 mm thick.
