Apple’s next iPhone launch will be the iPhone 17e, the successor to the iPhone 16e – here are all the features you can expect.
iPhone 17e will soon be released with these new features
It looks like Apple is bringing three major upgrades to the iPhone 17e and keeping the price the same as the iPhone 16e. In the latest issue of the Power Onnewsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shares the following details about the iPhone 17e:
“The new iPhone 17e, which replaces the 16e from a year ago, is due imminently. The big changes include the device getting the A19 chip from the iPhone 17 and MagSafe charging. And it’s shifting to Apple’s newest in-house cellular and wireless chips, I can confirm. I’ve also been told that the company is planning to keep pricing the same, at $599, setting up a simple advertising pitch: You’ll get more features for the same cost.”
“The new iPhone 17e, which replaces the 16e from a year ago, will soon hit the market. The big changes include the device getting the A19 chip from the iPhone 17 and MagSafe charging. And I can confirm that the device will switch to Apple’s latest in-house mobile and wireless chips. I also heard that the company plans to keep the price the same, at 719 euros, and use a simple advertising message: you get more features for the same price.”
No surprises
It is clearly an upgrade without surprises and we expected that. A new chipset, MagSafe and improved wireless chips – probably the C1X and the new N1 chip. The first version, C1, debuted in the iPhone 16e, the new N1 network chip and the improved C1X were first seen in the iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air respectively.
According to previous rumors, Apple would also introduce features such as the Apple Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17e. However, Gurman says nothing about this. That doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen, but it is striking. It’s also unclear whether Apple will increase the base storage capacity from 128GB to 256GB, as is the case with all other iPhone 17 models.
Prices
The iPhone 17e for 719 euros is cheaper, but still relatively expensive compared to the rest of the iPhone line-up. Apple is currently pre-selling the iPhone 16 869 eurosthe iPhone 17 for 969 eurosthe iPhone Air for 1229 euros and the iPhone 17 Pro from 1329 euros. At other online stores you can buy the iPhone 16e for €549, the iPhone 16 for €673.99, the iPhone 17 for €863, the iPhone Air for €918, and the iPhone 17 Pro for €1,223.99.
If the iPhone 17e for 719 euros indeed has 256 GB of storage space, then that makes it more attractive than the iPhone 16 with 128 GB for 869 euros. However, the iPhone 16 does have an ultra-wide-angle camera and a plethora of nice extra features that the iPhone 17e doesn’t have.
