Due to a number of hardware adjustments that Apple is planning, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may be the heaviest iPhone yet.
iPhone 18 Pro Max will be the heaviest iPhone ever
It looks like Apple will not change the dimensions of the iPhone 18 Pro Max and the device will have the same 6.9-inch screen as the iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to the Weibo account Instant Digital the housing of the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be slightly thicker, bringing the weight above 240 grams.
According to Instant Digital, the difference between the two generations is about 10 grams, which means the iPhone 18 Pro Max will weigh about 243 grams. This makes the device approximately 3 grams heavier than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the heaviest model that Apple currently produces.
From stainless steel and titanium to aluminum
By using titanium instead of stainless steel, Apple made the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models slightly lighter. Apple then switched from titanium to aluminum for the iPhone 17 Pro models, but internal changes and slightly thicker designs still increased the weight. The iPhone 17 Pro Max weighs 233 grams, the iPhone 16 Pro Max 227 grams. These are all the weights of the Pro Max models at a glance:

Instant Digital doesn’t provide a specific reason for the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s alleged thicker design. The most likely reason is a larger battery. In addition, Apple may use a new type of Vapor Chamber made of stainless steel. The main camera may also get a variable aperture and a new image sensor, and changes to the Dynamic Island and Face ID are expected. Which improvements are responsible for the weight gain remains unclear.
