The iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to have no fewer than four new camera features this year. These are the improvements!
These camera features are coming to the iPhone 16 Pro
The iPhone 16 series gets new features such as a larger display and a new capture button. In addition, four new camera features are apparently coming to the iPhone 16 Pro.
Improved ultra-wide-angle camera
The iPhone 16 Pro will receive an improved 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera this year, according to multiple reports. That is a significant upgrade compared to the current 12 MP version of the iPhone 15 Pro. This makes the iPhone 16 Pro’s ultra-wide-angle camera much better in most shooting situations, but especially in low-light environments. Photos also offer more detail and better colors, while the higher resolution offers more flexibility in editing and post-processing.
The iPhone 16 Pro’s 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera may also bring significant improvements to spatial video (spatial video). This feature uses a combination of the main camera and the ultra-wide-angle camera, and with a new 48MP ultra-wide-angle, it allows the iPhone 16 Pro to record spatial video in 4K resolution. The iPhone 15 Pro can only record spatial video in 1080p.

Improved optical zoom
Currently, the iPhone 15 Pro Max uses a tetraprism telephoto lens that allows for a 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom. In the iPhone 16 series, Apple will also bring the improved telephoto lens with tetaprism to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro. This means that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will both offer at least 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.
In addition, there is a rumor that the iPhone 16 Pro Max would have a so-called ‘periscope ultra-long telephoto combination’. This makes an optical zoom of more than 5x possible. This rumor has not been confirmed yet.
Anti-reflective coating
When you photograph in an environment with bright light, lens flares often occur. These are artifacts and internal reflections. It’s a problem that most cameras face. But Apple is working on a solution for the iPhone 16 Pro.
According to a rumor, Apple is testing a new lens coating technology for the iPhone 16 Pro called atomic layer deposition (ALD). This anti-reflective coating may be applied to the iPhone 16 Pro’s camera lenses to minimize the effects of internal reflections. This results in fewer unexpected artifacts on iPhone 16 Pro photos – especially on photos taken in bright light.

Improved main camera
The iPhone 16 Pro reportedly uses a new main camera sensor from Sony, with an improved design for better low-light performance. Sony’s latest stacked sensor technology separates the photodiodes and pixel transistors that are normally combined in one layer. Sony claims this sensor captures twice as much light compared to existing camera sensors.
It is still unclear whether this next-generation sensor will be used in both iPhone 16 Pro models. At least one rumor on Weibo says that only the iPhone 16 Pro Max will use this improved stacked camera sensor.
The new iPhone 16 series will be launched in September. Keep an eye on iPhoned for the latest news about the new iPhones and sign up for our newsletter right away!
