It’s a good idea to check now whether your iPhone will support iOS 27 next year – we’ve already checked it out for you.
These iPhones support iOS 27
On average, Apple supports iPhones with new iOS versions for five years. But there are also exceptions: for the iPhone 6S it was six years, just like for the iPhone XS (and iPhone XR), until Apple stopped supporting iOS 26 in September 2025. Now the question arises which iPhones have support for iOS 27. These are:
- iPhone 17, 17 Pro / 17 Pro Max (2025)
- iPhone Air (2025)
- iPhone 16e (2025)
- iPhone 16 / 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro / 16 Pro Max (2024)
- iPhone 15 / 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max (2023)
- iPhone 14 / 14 Plus / 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max (2022)
- iPhone SE 3 (2022)
- iPhone 13 / 13 mini / 13 Pro / 13 Pro Max (2021)
- iPhone 12 / 12 mini / 12 Pro / 12 Pro Max (2020)
- iPhone SE 2 (2020)
- iPhone 11 / 11 Pro / 11 Pro Max (2019)
Looking at age, the iPhone 11 (Pro/Max) is next on the list of iPhones that are no longer supported, closely followed by the iPhone SE 2, which is also equipped with the A13 chip, but was launched six months later. Even if Apple stops supporting the iPhone 11 with the next iOS update, the iPhone has benefited from updates for six years. For the iPhone SE 2 that would be five years.

The processor is decisive
However, it is expected that Apple will also support these two old iPhone models for another year and update them to iOS 27. As a rule, the processor generation is the decisive factor as to whether or not a model receives a new iOS update. The A12 Bionic chip is a jack of all trades among Apple devices: In addition to the iPhone Furthermore, the A12Z Bionic chip became the basis for the M1 chip.
The iPad 8 has now been on the market for five years, the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) for four years. From this you can conclude that Apple will probably provide the processor with new system updates for at least another year. Even if it concerns iPadOS and tvOS instead of iOS. Moreover, we expect Apple to rely on the popularity of the individual devices. The iPhone SE 2 was mainly popular as a business mobile and its only disadvantage is the limited amount of RAM. With iOS 26 it became clear that the iPhone SE 2 with its 3 GB RAM was experiencing problems. The iPhone 11 has 4 GB, just like its successor, the iPhone 12.
