Renault Espace

What can you buy nowadays for €142.86? One centimeter Renault SUV, it appears today. That is what Renault asks for every centimeter that the new Renault Espace is longer than its shorter brother, the Austral.

For those who missed it: the Renault Espace is back, but (obviously) not as an MPV. Instead, it is effectively a longer version of the Renault Austral, seating seven instead of five. The difference in length is 21 centimeters to be exact. Renault asks €3,000 extra for this, because the new Renault Espace costs a minimum of €46,830.

Please note: the starting price of the Austral is much lower at just under 40 grand, but the delivery range of the Espace is more limited. The larger car is only available as a Hybrid 200, with a 200 hp hybrid powertrain. The range also starts with the Techno, while the Austral – albeit with a less powerful engine – is also available as a more bare Equilibre.

The Renault Espace is also available as ‘Esprit Alpine’, a sportier version. The Espace Esprit Alpine costs €49,830 and then offers, among other things, 4Control four-wheel steering, larger wheels and nicer upholstery. There is real luxury with the Iconic. It has, among other things, standard adaptive cruise control (the rest does not), electrically adjustable front seats, steering wheel heating and leather upholstery. The price of all that beauty: €52,030.

Seven seats standard, five is also an option

Renault has a striking policy when it comes to the third row of seats. It is standard, but can optionally be omitted. As an option at no extra cost, Renault supplies the ‘Pack Baggage’, which, in addition to the two extra seats, also omits the double floor of the luggage compartment and the power connection there. All this has one advantage: (even) more luggage space. With third row of seats (flat) you have a maximum of 499 liters behind row 2, while the five-seater offers up to 581 liters.
