In the latest version of Skype, the Meet Now button has been added to start or join group conversations. You don’t even need to have the Skype application on your computer. This is how Skype group calls work with up to 100 participants.
Step 1: Start or join
We already knew the classic group chats in Skype, yet the function Meet now different. Group chats require a group name and you must select the participants before starting the chat. The new Meet now set you up faster, in just two steps.
All Meet Now chats have the same title and profile picture at the beginning. Participating in such a meeting is easier, you don’t even need to have an account. You open Skype and there you click on the blue button Meeting. Then a pop-up will appear. If you want to host a meeting, start a group meeting.
Step 2: Invite
You give the call a personalized meeting title in the field What is this meeting about. When you start typing, you can already choose between a number of suggested titles. You will also receive a link that you will send to all participants by email. There is a button ready to distribute the link via your default mail client, via Outlook Mail, Gmail or Facebook. With another button it is possible to also select your Skype contacts.
Step 3: Intermediate steps
The maximum number of participants is 100 people and such a meeting can last up to 24 hours. If you want to participate in a meeting, click on the link sent. If you receive such a link and do not have Skype, you can open the online version in the browsers Microsoft Edge, Chrome and Safari.
In Skype for Web is it possible to just listen in? Then you need the button Continue without using audio or video. You will then appear in the list of participants and you may actively participate via the chat. The call recordings are saved for 30 days, so you can follow the group session again afterwards. And media you share in chat will remain available even longer.
