The iPhone regularly gets new features, but the iPad often lags behind. However, iPadOS 18 introduces a handy feature that the iPhone does not have.

The iPad is often criticized and that is mainly due to the software. Still, Apple tries to make iPadOS better and more often provide new functions that are specially made for the iPad.

For example, iPadOS 18 brings a new feature called floating tab bar. This new floating bar is already in some apps, like Apple TV. But any other app can use the new feature.

Many older apps have buttons to different tabs at the bottom of the window, just like apps on the iPhone. But a few apps have gained a new feature in iPadOS 18 with the floating tab bar. By default, this bar shows several menu options, but you can customize them to your liking.

By holding your finger down on the tab bar for a moment, the sidebar opens. You can then add new options by dragging the desired functions from the sidebar to the tab bar. Unfortunately, it is not possible to do this for all elements. Some parts in the tab bar cannot be removed either.

The tab bar is already present in a few Apple apps. But not everywhere you can customize the bar. Hopefully this will be adjusted when the real release of iPadOS 18 is there in September.

More new features of iPadOS 18
