Samsung presented a lot of new products this month, including the Galaxy Note 20 and Tab S7, but also the Galaxy Watch 3. The Samsung watch line saw the light of day in 2013 and in recent years the South Korean electronics giant has been tinkering with its smart watches. The result is the Watch 3. What’s new?
The Samsung watch is made of stainless steel and has a leather strap and a round timepiece. A more expensive titanium version will also be released later this year. The Watch 3 looks a lot like a traditional watch instead of a somewhat futuristic timepiece like the Apple Watch. The design will therefore undoubtedly appeal more to consumers who are looking for a traditional watch with some extra functions.
41mm and 45mm
As with previous models, you can turn the bezel of the watch to navigate apps, scroll through notifications, or switch between different widgets. The new smartwatch is available in a 41mm variant and a 45mm model. The first model has a 1.2-inch screen, while the second has a 1.4-inch screen. The Super AMOLED display of both models offers a resolution of 360 by 360 pixels.
Despite the larger screen and the rotating bezel of the timepiece, the watch is narrower and lighter than previous models. Compared to the original Galaxy Watch, the Watch 3 is approximately 8% narrower, 14% thinner and 15% lighter. This should certainly benefit the wearing comfort.
Memory
Inside the watch we find a 1.15Ghz dual-core Exynos 9910 chipset, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. The 41mm model got a 247mAh battery and the larger version a 340mAh battery. The smartwatch also has an IP68 rating, which means that the watch can withstand dust and is also waterproof.
Smart functions
An interesting new feature is the sensor that can measure your oxygen saturation, although it is not available yet. There will be a software update for the smartwatch later in the year that supports the option. The Watch 3 also contains sensors to measure your blood pressure and to make ECG heart films. The Galaxy Watch 3 is also equipped with fall detection. If you fall hard, an SOS message will be sent immediately to the contact persons you have specified.
The Galaxy Watch 3 is now in stores. For the 45mm model, which is available in black and silver, you pay 459 euros. The smaller version is available in bronze and silver and costs 429 euros.
