This is the new Ford Mondeo

The Mondeo mystery has partly been unraveled. While it’s not entirely clear yet how Ford will give the Mondeo a successor in Europe after the current model drops in March 2022, we do know what the mysterious wrapped Mondeo-esque we were able to show you recently.

Photos of the brand new Ford Mondeo have surfaced in the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. That appears to be the car that closely resembles the Chinese Ford Evos, which was recently caught in a camouflage suit in both Europe and the United States. Although Ford has also tested the new Mondeo in our continent, it is only intended for the Chinese market.

Changan

Like the Evos, the new Ford Mondeo was developed for the Chinese market by the Changan Ford partnership. The car therefore has a front that is almost identical to that of its Evos developed by the same joint venture. At the rear of the new Mondeo, we perceive design influences from the electric Mustang Mach-E. Technically, the car has nothing to do with that SUV. The new Chinese Mondeo shares its platform with the Evos and has the same 2.95 meter long wheelbase. The new Mondeo is 4.94 meters long, making it 9 centimeters longer than the outgoing model. Just like the Evos, the new Mondeo will not have an electrified powertrain, at least for the time being. Under the hood will be a 238 hp blown 2.0 four-cylinder petrol engine.

Ford’s latest sedan has handles recessed into the doors and a front with flat LED daytime running lights with which the Mondeo peers into the world. On the more expensive versions, the LED daytime running lights are visually connected by an LED strip. The basic version apparently has a normal strip here. The new Mondeo will soon be available with a black roof. In addition, we have direct footage of the sportier ST-Line version, which you can recognize by its more dynamic-looking bumpers and larger wheels. The Mondeo model name can be read centrally on the tailgate.

Europe

As mentioned, this Chinese Ford Mondeo is not coming to Europe. With its front, the design fits seamlessly with that of other specifically Chinese Fords, such as the aforementioned Evos and SUVs such as the Equator and Equator Sport. Changan Ford models therefore remain in China. We should probably look for a successor to the European Mondeo more in the crossover and SUV corner. It is possible that Ford will eventually present a car that follows the concept of the Evos and the Citroën C5 X, but nothing is officially known about this. It is also questionable whether the successor of the Mondeo will get that model name here.

For the time being, it seems that the Kuga and Mustang Mach-E will take over from the Mondeo from March 2022. Ford will not be very sorry about that. The Mustang Mach-E has already overtaken the old faithful Mondeo in the European sales lists in a short time.

Lincoln Zephyr

The new Mondeo will immediately get a premium brother from sister brand Lincoln in China. We can show you the Lincoln Zephyr right away, the production version of the Lincoln Zephyr Reflection presented in April this year. The windows leave no doubt that this is Lincoln’s variant of the new Mondeo. Lincoln does give the car its own front and rear. The Zephyr gets the same 2.0 as the Mondeo and is technically very similar to that model, although the wheelbase of the Zephyr is marginally shorter.
