Porsche Taycan

Four years after its market introduction, Porsche’s electric sales stunner goes under the knife. This is the updated Porsche Taycan, complete with a sleek new face, a redesigned rear and loaded with up to more than 950 electric horses.

With the Taycan, Porsche launched its very first electric model on the automotive scene about four years ago. The four-door Porsche Taycan was joined in 2021 by the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and Taycan Cross Turismo, more practically shaped models with which the Taycan followed the Sport Turismo variant of the Panamera. The new Panamera will no longer be a Sport Turismo, but the variants of the Taycan that are a cross between a hatchback and a station wagon will continue to exist. They have now been renewed together with the four-door Porsche Taycan. The facelifted Porsche Taycan differs both optically and technically from the now a few years old versions.

Although the technical changes are just as interesting, we kick off with the optical news. The Porsche Taycan gets a new front with not only new bumper work, but also new HD matrix LED headlights. They are slightly flatter and now taper towards the center. The design of the headlights has also been changed. The vertical cooling slot that ran down from the headlights must be removed. The vertical opening has now been disconnected from the viewers and is now only located in the bumper. Also new: the front screens. They are less rounded than those of the original. Not only the front has been sharpened, the rear lights are also slightly different from those of the Taycans that you have been familiar with for a while. This applies to both the four-door Taycan and the Turismo variants. For the first time, the Taycan will also be available with an illuminated Porsche lettering on the back.

There are also novelties in the interior, although they are smaller in nature. For example, the instrument panel, the central screen and the optional screen for the co-driver have a new interface. The driving mode switch on the steering wheel is now standard. In addition: Taycans with the optional Sport Chrono package and the Performance Plus battery get a ‘push to pass’ button in that switch. If you press this button, you will benefit from up to 95 hp of extra power for 10 seconds, depending on the engine version. The selector lever on the left behind the steering wheel with which you operate the cruise control will be retained, although from now on you will also use it to control certain driver assistance systems. More news: from now on you can also stream videos on the central display and on the screen for the co-driver.

More power, greater range, faster charging

There have also been changes on a technical level, although Porsche has not yet provided details about the power and other specifications of the many engine versions of the Taycan, although Porsche does mention a new electric motor for the rear axle. The four-door Taycan and the Cross Turismo were available today as simply Taycan, Taycan 4S, GTS, Turbo and Turbo S. The Taycan Cross Turismo existed as Taycan 4, 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. According to Porsche, the previous 326 is hp (408 hp with overboost) strong, simply called Taycan engine version 82 hp stronger than before. From now on, it zooms to a speed of 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, 0.6 seconds faster than before. The Taycan Turbo S – which previously produced up to 761 hp – is now an almost crazy 952 hp. The Taycan Turbo S reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in just 2.4 seconds. That’s almost half a second faster than before. By the way, Porsche seems to be working on an even more powerful version of the Taycan, which mobilizes more than 1,000 hp.

Depending on the chosen drivetrain and body variant, the range of the Porsche Taycan also increases. According to Porsche, with up to 175 kilometers to 678 kilometers. This range does not apply to every engine version of the Taycan. The Performance Battery Plus now has a gross capacity of 105 kWh instead of 93 kWh.

The renewed Taycan family.

The Porsche Taycans are not only faster, but can also charge faster. With the exception of the lower-positioned engine versions, Taycans were until recently able to fast charge with a maximum of 270 kW. An additional 50 kW has now been added, which means that you can fill an empty battery pack with a maximum of 320 kW – at an 800V charging station – with fresh electricity. The Taycan should be able to charge faster at lower temperatures, partly thanks to the arrival of a new heat pump and improved heat management. Furthermore, the Taycans must be able to recover energy more efficiently. The maximum recuperation capacity when braking from high speeds has increased by more than 30 percent.

More technical news: the Porsche Taycan now has adaptive air suspension as standard, regardless of the selected engine version. The new Active Ride chassis is also optionally available for Taycans with four-wheel drive.

Equipment

The standard equipment of the Taycans has also been improved. For example, things such as mood lighting, ParkAssist with reversing camera, heated front seats and Power Steering Plus are now standard. Despite all the technical changes and improved equipment, the updated Porsche Taycan weighs up to fifteen kilos less than before.

The updated Porsche Taycan will be available at Dutch dealers from this spring. Prices to follow. The Taycan has certainly done no harm to Porsche. Since the model’s introduction in 2019, almost 150,000 units have been sold worldwide. In 2023 alone, 40,629 units left the factory gates in Stuttgart.
