OpenAI has added a new feature to ChatGPT for the iPhone that makes the app a lot better. This is new!
New ChatGPT feature
Do you regularly use ChatGPT? Then we have good news, because OpenAI has added a new feature to the app. You can now have answers from the chatbot read out loud. The function is an extension of the existing one voice chat in ChatGPT, which allows you to talk to the chatbot. This way you no longer have to type commands, but you can tell which action should be performed.

Until now, a written message always appeared in the ChatGPT app in response to the voice search. This still happens in the updated version, but you also get the option to have the message read out loud. According to OpenAI, the new feature should make ChatGPT more accessible, for example for people who have difficulty reading due to dyslexia. We explain how to use the feature.
Have messages read aloud: this is how it works
In ChatGPT it is now possible to have messages spoken out loud. The function is immediately available in 37 languages, including Dutch and English. You can choose which voice reads the message, you have a choice of five voices. This way you can configure ChatGPT’s new feature to your own preference. Then have the message read out as follows:
- Open ChatGPT on your iPhone;
- Start the chat with a question or assignment;
- Press and hold ChatGPT’s response;
- Choose ‘Read Aloud’.
After you get up Read Aloud Once you have tapped, an audio menu will appear at the top of the chat. There you also have the option to pause, rewind or fast forward the read message. Very useful, especially if you have a longer answer from ChatGPT read out. You can also use the new function in ChatGPT if you have difficulty reading longer text. Or if you prefer to listen to spoken text, of course.

Apple is working on its own GPT
Another new feature for ChatGPT, but Apple also seems to be working on its own chatbot in the background. A lot of new AI-related features are expected in iOS 18, making Siri a lot smarter. It is therefore quite possible that you no longer need ChatGPT with iOS 18, but that of course remains unclear until Apple has released the update.

That will take a while, because iOS 18 won’t arrive until September. A few months earlier, Apple unveils the new features of the update, which usually happens at WWDC in June. Until then, we will have to make do with ChatGPT and the new features that OpenAI introduces. Want to know more about all the AI features expected in iOS 18?
