A previously unknown Apple Intelligence feature for Apple Music has been discovered in the code of the latest iOS 18 beta 4. Here’s what you need to know.
Secret Apple Intelligence Feature
Details about Apple Intelligence in practice have been scarce so far. Not surprisingly, since Apple hasn’t even started beta testing for developers yet. But now a feature has been discovered that the company apparently still wants to implement and that hasn’t been announced before. This is evident from the latest beta of iOS 18 and was discovered by 9to5Mac.
Creating images for your playlists
The feature is intended for the Apple Music app. Apple apparently plans to incorporate its ‘Image Playground’ feature here, via a new ‘Create Image’ button. The so-called ‘Image Playground’ is Apple Intelligence’s image generator. It can generate images in various sizes using a prompt or sketch.
In Apple Music, “Create image” will apparently be used to create AI-generated artwork for your custom playlists, which will then appear as the cover image. The service will then presumably ask you what you want the playlist artwork to look like and then offer a few options to choose from, according to 9to5Mac. At the moment, the feature is still in development and is not available to use. But that goes for all of Apple Intelligence’s other features. There were hints of a waitlist in previous betas, but no one has been able to sign up for that yet either.
Step by step to Apple Intelligence
Apple is taking a cautious approach to Apple Intelligence. The company wants to start a test phase this summer, but it is still unclear whether it will be available to the public or only to participants in the developer program. At the moment, we are betting on the latter.
iOS 18 with Apple Intelligence will then be released as a beta in the fall, probably in September 2024. Not all features will be available, such as the improved Siri. In addition, the only supported language will be American English, and Apple initially refuses to bring Apple Intelligence to Europe.
