Spotify increases the prices for Spotify Premium, but current subscribers can prevent that price increase – we show how you do that!
Avoid the higher prices
We already wrote that Spotify has increased the prices for the Premium subscription and that Apple Music is now the cheapest option. It is still a good idea to choose Apple Music, but if you are already a Subscriber of Spotify, there is a way to get out of the price increase. You have to make a concession for that, but that is probably not a problem for most people.
If you already have a subscription to Spotify Premium, you can avoid the higher prices by switching to a basic subscription. If you are via the website Logs (not via the app!) You see whether you are eligible for that. If you now have premium individual, you can probably switch to basic individual. If you have premium duo, you can go to Basic Duo, etc.
Prices of Spotify Basic
The price of the Spotify Basic version that you are eligible for is the same as the price you are currently paying for your Premium subscription. The higher prices for Spotify Premium will only start on 1 May for current subscribers. If you switch to Spotify Basic, you will not get a price increase on 1 May.
The concession that you have to make to prevent the higher prices is that there are no listening hours for audio books at Spotify Basic. If you want that, that is actually the only reason not to switch to Spotify Basic. There are also no differences between basic and premium.
Spotify Basic is therefore only available if you already have a premium subscription. If you cancel your basic subscription, you cannot subscribe again. With duo and family subscriptions, only the manager can arrange the switch to basic. All members are then automatically transferred. Whether the ability to switch to Spotify Basic to prevent the higher prices is temporary or not is not yet clear.
