In 2025, Apple will release no fewer than five new iPhones. We saw the iPhone 16e, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and the all-new iPhone Air. According to rumors, another series of new iPhones are expected in 2026. Apple will probably kick off the year with the iPhone 17e, followed by the iPhone 18 series in the fall. That series consists of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and a new iPhone.
Apple is expected to release the first foldable iPhone in 2026. The foldable device will be released in September together with the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. It is still unclear what name the new iPhone will receive, although rumors have been talking about the iPhone Fold for some time. There is a good chance that Apple will eventually choose a different name, to increase the differences with competitors such as the Samsung Fold and the Google Fold.
iPhone Fold
Expectations for Apple’s foldable iPhone are high. For example, in a recent report by the International Data Corporation (IDC) read that by 2026, 22 percent of foldable smartphones sold will probably be iPhones. That is a big difference with 2025, where Samsung and Google still sell the majority of foldable devices. It is also expected that foldable smartphones will become much more popular with the introduction of the iPhone Fold.
Apple has been working on the iPhone Fold for years, which will be a combination of the iPhone and iPad. The device has a 5.5-inch screen on the outside, and when opened, the iPhone Fold has a 7.8-inch display on the inside. This makes the device approximately the same size as the iPad mini 2021 and 2024. According to rumors, the iPhone Fold has a ‘thickness’ of only 4.8 millimeters when opened, which is even thinner than the casing of the iPhone Air.
Most important and most expensive iPhone
The most important part of the iPhone Fold will of course be the screen, which is rumored to have no fold when it is opened. This distinguishes Apple from competitors such as Samsung and Google, because in devices from these brands the fold is often still visible on the display. Other features of the iPhone Fold include Touch ID, a C2 modem and two 48-megapixel rear cameras.
You will have to pay a considerable amount for the first foldable iPhone in 2026, because the expected starting price is no less than 2400 dollars. The European price is probably even higher, which means it will not be a device for the general public.
