Challenge someone to an Apple Watch Activity contest

With the Apple Watch, Apple comes up with new ways to get you moving almost every year. That started with the introduction of the Activity app, in which you have to fill three colored rings to achieve a certain amount of movement.

watchOS 5 expands on this by adding a competition feature. This allows you to challenge another Apple Watch wearer for seven days to get the highest score.

Before you can challenge someone, you must first share each other’s activity data. You do this via the Activity app on your iPhone, where you can add someone in the ‘Share’ tab. Once this person has accepted the invitation, you can immediately challenge him or her to a competition.

You challenge someone to an Activity contest as follows

  1. Open the Activity app on your iPhone;
  2. Select the ‘Share’ tab at the bottom of the screen;
  3. Tap the person you want to challenge;
  4. Choose ‘Match with’ name ‘;
  5. Send the invitation.

Once the battle has started, you can easily request an overview in the Activity app that shows the current score. You earn one point for every percentage you add to your rings. You can earn a maximum of 600 points per day, which means you can earn a maximum of 4200 points in a week. You do this by filling your daily rings and / or doing workouts.

Pay attention: To enter an Activity competition with someone, both Apple Watches must be running at least watchOS 5. In practice, this means that the first generation of the Watch no longer supports this function.
