Tip: This is how you install Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp

Many people buy a Mac to use macOS, but did you know you can use Windows on it too? In this tip, we’ll show you how to set it up with Boot Camp.

Boot Camp: Windows on the Mac

MacOS is a nice operating system, but for some applications you (unfortunately) still need Microsoft Windows. Fortunately, Apple is not difficult and you can just install Windows on any modern Mac. For this you use Boot Camp, a handy program that ensures that Windows functions properly in combination with an Apple computer.

Before you start, you do need a number of things. For example, you need at least 60GB of free space on the hard disk. You also need an iso file to install Windows. Via the Microsoft website you can download the installation media. Please note: a valid license is also required. Then follow the steps below to install Windows.

  1. Open Boot Camp Assistant on the Mac. Follow the steps to create a partition for Windows and download additional installation files for Windows. Then restart your Mac;
  2. After your Mac has restarted, the Windows installer will appear. When asked which disk Windows should be put on, choose the Bootcamp partition;
  3. Follow the further steps until your Mac reboots to Windows. Then install the Boot Camp support software in the welcome screen that appears;
  4. Your Mac with Windows is now ready to use.

Now that your Mac has two operating systems, it’s helpful to know how to switch between the two platforms. To switch from Windows to macOS, use the Boot Camp icon next to the clock at the bottom right to restart your Mac. To switch from macOS to Windows, choose ‘Startup Disk’ in ‘System Preferences’.

You can also hold down the Option key when you turn on your Mac. A handy menu will then appear where you can indicate your choice. It is good to know that you can always switch, regardless of which operating system you boot.
