You may not think about it often, but backing up your iPhone is something you should do on a regular basis. This ensures that you do not lose all your photos, videos and other data if something happens to your phone.
Make iPhone backup: this is how you do it
Backing up your iPhone is very important. If your device is stolen or broken, you will not immediately lose all your data due to a backup. A backup is also very useful if you switch to a new iPhone. In this tip, we’ll show you two ways to make a backup very easily.
1. Back up iPhone with iCloud
A convenient way to back up is through Apple’s iCloud. If you use this option, you make an iPhone backup every time the device connects to Wi-Fi. Handy, because then you never have to think about it again.
If you choose iCloud, go to ‘Settings> iCloud> iCloud backup’ on your iPhone. Then set the slider to green and choose ‘Back up now’. Please note that you only get 5GB of storage space for free from Apple, after that you pay extra for the space you need more. For 0.99 cents per month you have 50GB of storage space, which will take you a long way.

2. Back up iPhone with Finder
Another way of backing up an iPhone is to do that with the macOS Finder. Don’t have a Mac? No worries. You can also make an iPhone backup with a Windows PC. You connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac via a USB cable. Open iTunes on Windows or Finder on the Mac and select your iPhone from the menu. You can find this at the top left as an icon in iTunes or in the left column of the Finder.

In the ‘Overview’ tab, under Backups, tick the button ‘Automatically create backups on this computer’. Every time you connect iPhone to your computer, iTunes or Finder automatically backs up. Do not be alarmed if it takes a long time the first time, the times after it will be faster, because then only the differences with the last backup will be updated.
If you don’t want to update automatically, you can also manually create a backup in iTunes or Finder. You do this as follows:
- Open iTunes or the Finder and click on your iPhone in the top left corner / left menu;
- Choose ‘Overview’;
- Under ‘Backups’ you can manually make a backup.
