Start call waiting on your iPhone

Nowadays we use an app for everything, but the iPhone gets its name from calling. The standard Phone app is full of useful tricks, including taking a second call. This is how you start a call waiting on your iPhone:

  1. First of all, you need to enable the function. To do this, go into Settings and go to ‘Phone’;
  2. Then tap Call Waiting and slide the switch so the box turns green;
  3. From now on you can accept a call waiting.

The next time you are on a call and receive a second call in between, you will see three options appear on the screen. You can hang up the current call and answer the new caller, have the second caller leave a voicemail, or put the new caller on hold and finish your current call first.

You can clearly see who you are currently calling with on the Phone screen. By pressing ‘Switch’, you switch between calls. Of course you can also mute your sound during the conversation, for example to consult with someone next to you. This is also called consultation.

Start iPhone conference call

Do the two callers know each other or are you trying to set up a conference? Then use the button ‘Merge’. This allows you to place multiple callers in one telephone call, also known as a conference call or conference call. All callers can chat with each other. With Add, you can have a conversation with up to five people at the same time, including you.

Do you need to meet with more people, or are you careful with your calling minutes? Then try the group call function of FaceTime, where you can make (video) calls with up to 32 people at the same time. You can of course also call via WhatsApp or another messaging service. Are you quite forgetful? Then use Siri call reminders as a reminder for telephone appointments.
