Tip: This is how you turn on the incognito mode of Google Maps

Want to navigate without Google knowing where you are going? Then you have to turn on the incognito mode of Google Maps. The feature is available starting today.

Turn on Google Maps Incognito Mode

Google has released an update for Maps. From now on it is possible to use the incognito mode. This one does exactly what you expect based on the name. If you turn on Incognito mode, Google Maps will no longer save your destination. That is how it works:

Using Google Maps Incognito Mode

  1. Update Google Maps to the latest version

  2. Open the app on your iPhone

  3. Tap your profile icon at the top right of the screen

  4. Choose ‘Turn on incognito mode’

Now Google Maps Incognito Mode is activated. Furthermore, the navigation app works as usual. So just enter the destination as you are used to. The only difference is that Google doesn’t save this now. The company also does not keep track of your location on the road.

This is of course good for your privacy, but you do compromise on ease of use. For example, Google Maps now does not update your location history, so you have to re-enter the address on any subsequent visit. Also, Google Maps does not recommend personalized places, such as restaurants.
