Does the Touch Bar of your MacBook suddenly stop working? Which can. The bar sometimes ‘freezes’ for no apparent reason. In this tip, we’ll show you how to get the Touch Bar working again.
Touch Bar does not work
You are just busy on your MacBook Pro, until the Touch Bar suddenly stops working. The touch bar stops responding to anything, even when you restart the current program or try unsuccessfully in another app. No worries. The solution is probably closer to home than you think. Here’s what to do when the Touch Bar is not working:
- Open the Applications folder, tap Utilities, then open Activities View;
- Make sure the first tab is open: ‘CPU’;
- Enter the text ‘touchbar server’ in the search box at the top right;
- Select ‘TouchBarServer’ and click on the cross at the top left;
- Confirm the order by following the instructions on the screen.
You have now forcibly closed the Touch Bar. The process should resume after this without any problems. This means that the touch bar becomes active again. You may need to restart the app you were using at the time of ‘freezing’. If the above solution does not work, it is wise to restart your MacBook from scratch.
Why this works
You may wonder why you should put in a relatively large amount of effort for a seemingly simple task like refreshing the Touch Bar. This has everything to do with the T2 chip. This processor is from 2018 in MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops and is responsible for security. The chip is positioned between the regular processor and software and monitors sensitive Touch ID data, for example.
