Due to the ongoing concerns surrounding the corona virus, the organization of the Tokyo Auto Salon has decided to cancel the fair, which was scheduled for January 15 to 17, 2021. The virtual version of the event will continue as usual.
After a year full of canceled car fairs, it does not seem as yet that anything will take place in the first half of 2021. The Tokyo Auto Salon, which was on the program early after the turn of the year, is the youngest victim. According to the organization, scrapping was necessary because the corona virus is again spreading in Japan. People who have already bought a ticket will get their money back, because the Tokyo Auto Salon will not be moved to later in the year. A physical variant of the Japanese car fair may not be on the program until 2022. The virtual version of the show will start on January 15 according to plan. What that will look like in concrete terms, the organization will keep under wraps for a while.
Last year, however, the Tokyo Motor Show narrowly managed to escape before the pandemic took hold of the world. That edition was quite a party thanks to fireworks like the Toyota GR Yaris and the updated Honda Civic Type-R. In addition, traditionally various models that are not available from us, for example the Mitsubishi eK Space, Honda S660 and Daihatsu Taft. A luck in an accident: such idiosyncratic Japanese cars are expected to still be featured on the virtual version of the fair.
