Too bad: this popular iPhone is ‘Vintage’ according to Apple

Do you have an older iPhone? Then we have bad news, because Apple has marked a popular iPhone as a vintage. This means that for you.

iPhone 6s is vintage

Apple regularly marks older products such as ‘vintage’ or ‘outdated’. Products with which Apple stopped selling more than five years and less than seven years ago, the company gives the ‘Vintage’ label. At the beginning of this year, the Apple Watch Series 4 was labeled as vintage and now Apple has added more products to the list. The popular iPhone 6S is this time.

Apple released the iPhone 6S in 2015. The phone rotates on the A9 chip and had an aluminum housing. The renewed housing was an important part of the iPhone 6S, because the iPhone 6 could be easily bent. Furthermore, this was the first iPhone with 3D Touch and the last model with a mini-jack connection. The iPhone 6s was available at Apple up to and including 2018, as a cheaper alternative to the regular devices. Now the popular iPhone has been explained by Apple as vintage.

Difference vintage and outdated

It is not without consequences that Apple has labeled the iPhone 6s as vintage. The company supplies spare parts up to five years after the last sale, in some countries that is also mandatory. When products such as vintage are marked, these spare parts are no longer supplemented. This increases the chance that your iPhone cannot be repaired, because a certain part is no longer in stock.

With a vintage iPhone, repairs are still being carried out, provided that the spare parts are available. That is the big difference with outdated products, with those devices, Apple no longer carries out repairs. Devices with which Apple stopped selling seven years or longer are marked as ‘outdated’. It is striking that Apple has previously marked the iPhone 6s with 32 GB of storage space as outdated. The iPhone 6s with 16 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB is still considered vintage.

Mac mini also vintage

In addition to the iPhone 6S, Apple has also added the Mac Mini from 2018 to the list of vintage products. This Mac appeared before Apple switched to Apple Silicon, the company’s own chips. The Mac Mini 2018 is the last Mac Mini that runs on an Intel chip. The same applies to this Mac as for the iPhone 6S: repairs are possible, but the spare parts are no longer supplemented.

Do you still have an iPhone 6S or Mac Mini 2018? Then it is good to know that these devices are now marked as vintage. Only in two years will they be seen as outdated, then no repairs are possible at all. Is your vintage iPhone 6s in need of replacement and are you looking for a new iPhone?
